Goals
I am always most comfortable when I am outside. The fresh air and soothing noises seem to make all my worries melt away. I am comforted by the fact that I am so small in comparison to space and time. I am content to be an insignificant spec in time until I am reminded of the incredible impact that we are having on the wild places of this planet.
As soon as I see a piece of litter or hear the soft hum of a nearby street I get sad, and all of a sudden, I am not content. I am on a mission to reduce my waste and live a simpler, healthier life for me and my home. This isn’t always easy. I have made so many mistakes, but it is about figuring out how I want to live. What is the impact that I am OK with making and how does all of this fit in with who I am and who I want to be?
Right now I am a student and a traveler. I am studying Earth Systems at Stanford University and participating in every abroad program I can. In the past year I have sailed across the South Pacific and spent three months in Australia and New Zealand. I spend my days learning about our planet, particularly her oceans, so that I can help protect them.
In the future I want to be on the front lines, both scientifically and with activism. I want to use the education that I have been fortunate enough to obtain to teach others about the planet and how we are impacting it. Beyond that I want to be surrounded by love and support. How exactly this is all going to happen, I don’t know. There will likely be bumps along the way, and periods of time when I am not super happy and that is OK, as long as I keep moving forward.
From now on I want this blog to be a place where I go, and hopefully you as well, to figure out where I stand during different parts of my life. I hope that through sharing my thoughts and experiences with you all, I will be able to gain a better understanding of who I am and where I am going. Hopefully providing some insight for others along the way.
We all have a place where we feel the most comfortable. Whether that is your bed, or your favorite bookstore, there is a place that makes you feel content to just be. That is the feeling that I want to try to capture and hold onto each and every day as I work towards a healthy lifestyle for myself and Mother Earth!
